Dokdo
Dokdo is a group of small islets located in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea. The islets are situated between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, and they cover an area of about 0.2 square kilometers. Dokdo is known for its rugged terrain and rich marine biodiversity, making it an important site for fishing and ecological research.
The sovereignty of Dokdo is a contentious issue between South Korea and Japan. South Korea currently administers the islets, maintaining a small police detachment and a lighthouse. The dispute over Dokdo reflects broader historical and territorial tensions between the two nations.
