Diverticular Disease
Diverticular disease refers to a condition affecting the digestive system, specifically the colon. It occurs when small pouches, called diverticula, form in the wall of the colon. These pouches can become inflamed or infected, leading to a more serious condition known as diverticulitis. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, and fever.
The exact cause of diverticular disease is not fully understood, but it is often linked to a low-fiber diet, which can lead to increased pressure in the colon. Treatment typically involves dietary changes, medications, and in severe cases, surgery to remove affected sections of the colon.
