Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders are mental health conditions that involve a disconnection between thoughts, identity, consciousness, and memory. People with these disorders may feel detached from themselves or their surroundings, leading to difficulties in recalling important personal information. This can happen after experiencing traumatic events, such as abuse or accidents, which can trigger these dissociative symptoms as a coping mechanism.
There are several types of dissociative disorders, including Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder) and Dissociative Amnesia. Individuals with these disorders may struggle with their sense of self and may find it hard to function in daily life. Treatment often involves therapy to help them process their experiences and regain a sense of control.
