Diskit Monastery
Diskit Monastery, also known as Diskit Gompa, is a prominent Buddhist monastery located in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, India. Founded in the 14th century, it belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and is the oldest and largest monastery in the region. The monastery is situated on a hilltop, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
The monastery is home to several important statues and murals, including a large statue of Maitreya Buddha, which stands at 32 meters tall. Diskit Monastery also serves as a cultural center for the local community, hosting various religious festivals and ceremonies throughout the year.
