Diskit Gompa
Diskit Gompa is a prominent Buddhist monastery located in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, India. Founded in the 14th century, it is the oldest and largest monastery in the region, belonging to the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The gompa is perched on a hilltop, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the Shyok River.
The monastery is home to around 100 monks and features several shrines and prayer halls. One of its most notable attractions is a 32-meter tall statue of Maitreya Buddha, which symbolizes peace and compassion. Diskit Gompa serves as a cultural and spiritual center for the local community and visitors alike.
