Discoid Lupus Erythematosus
Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic skin condition characterized by round, disc-shaped lesions. These lesions typically appear on sun-exposed areas, such as the face, scalp, and ears. DLE is a form of lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue.
The lesions can be red, scaly, and may lead to scarring or hair loss if not treated. While DLE primarily affects the skin, it does not usually cause the systemic symptoms associated with other forms of lupus. Treatment often includes topical medications and sun protection to manage symptoms and prevent flare-ups.
