Diffuse Reflection
Diffuse reflection occurs when light hits a rough or uneven surface, scattering in many directions instead of reflecting uniformly. This scattering happens because the microscopic irregularities on the surface cause the light rays to bounce off at various angles. As a result, we can see the object from different viewpoints, even if it is not directly facing the light source.
Common examples of diffuse reflection can be seen on surfaces like paper, walls, or clothing. Unlike specular reflection, which occurs on smooth surfaces like mirrors or calm water, diffuse reflection allows for a more uniform illumination of objects, making them visible in various lighting conditions.
