Diego de Almagro
Diego de Almagro was a Spanish conquistador born in 1475 in Spain. He is best known for his role in the conquest of Peru alongside Francisco Pizarro. Almagro played a significant part in the early exploration and colonization of South America, particularly in the regions of Chile and Peru.
In 1535, Almagro led an expedition to Chile, seeking wealth and land. However, his ambitions led to conflicts with Pizarro and his followers, resulting in a power struggle. Ultimately, Almagro was captured and executed in 1538, marking a significant moment in the history of Spanish colonization in the Americas.
