Dialects of Korea
Korea has several distinct dialects, primarily categorized into two main groups: the North Korean dialects and the South Korean dialects. Each region has its own unique pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, influenced by historical and cultural factors. The Seoul dialect is considered the standard in the South, while the Pyongyang dialect serves a similar role in the North.
In addition to these main dialects, there are also regional variations, such as the Gyeongsang dialect spoken in the southeastern part of South Korea and the Jeolla dialect from the southwest. These dialects can differ significantly, making communication challenging for speakers from different areas.
