Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip
Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) is a condition where the hip joint does not form properly in infants and young children. In a healthy hip, the ball at the top of the thigh bone fits snugly into the socket of the pelvis. In DDH, this ball may be loose, partially dislocated, or completely dislocated, which can lead to problems with movement and pain later in life.
DDH can be detected through physical exams and imaging tests like ultrasound or X-rays. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for preventing long-term complications. Treatment options may include bracing, physical therapy, or, in some cases, surgery to ensure proper hip development.
