Phrynosoma platyrhinos
The Phrynosoma platyrhinos, commonly known as the desert horned lizard, is a species of lizard found primarily in the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This lizard is characterized by its flattened body, broad head, and distinctive horns on its skull, which help it blend into its sandy environment.
Desert horned lizards primarily feed on ants and other small insects. They have a unique defense mechanism: when threatened, they can puff up their bodies and, in some cases, even squirt blood from their eyes to deter predators. This fascinating adaptation helps them survive in their harsh habitats.
