Demographic Transition Model
The Demographic Transition Model (DTM) describes the changes in birth and death rates as a country develops economically. It typically consists of five stages: high birth and death rates, declining death rates, declining birth rates, low birth and death rates, and finally, a potential decline in population. This model helps explain population growth patterns over time.
As countries progress through the stages of the DTM, they often experience improvements in healthcare, education, and living standards. These changes lead to lower mortality rates and eventually lower fertility rates, resulting in a more stable population. Understanding the DTM can aid in planning for resources and services in growing populations.
