Democratic Army of Greece
The Democratic Army of Greece (DAG) was the military wing of the Greek Communist Party during the Greek Civil War, which lasted from 1946 to 1949. Formed in response to the political and social turmoil following World War II, DAG aimed to establish a communist government in Greece. It primarily consisted of former partisans from the National Liberation Front and other leftist groups.
DAG engaged in guerrilla warfare against the Greek government and its allies, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Despite initial successes, the army faced significant challenges, including lack of resources and internal divisions, ultimately leading to its defeat in 1949.
