Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad
The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W) was a major American railroad that operated primarily in the northeastern United States. Founded in 1851, it connected key cities such as Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Newark, facilitating the transport of coal, freight, and passengers. The railroad played a significant role in the industrial growth of the region.
In 1960, the DL&W merged with the Erie Railroad to form the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. The DL&W is remembered for its contributions to rail travel and commerce, as well as its distinctive passenger service, which included elegant trains and stations that reflected the era's architectural styles.
