Decrees of Nueva Planta
The Decrees of Nueva Planta were a series of laws enacted by King Philip V of Spain between 1707 and 1716. These decrees aimed to centralize and unify the administration of the Spanish territories following the War of the Spanish Succession. They abolished the traditional laws and institutions of several regions, particularly in Catalonia, Valencia, and Aragon, replacing them with a uniform legal system.
The decrees marked a significant shift in the governance of Spain, promoting a more centralized monarchy. They established the dominance of the Spanish language and sought to diminish regional identities, leading to long-lasting impacts on the political landscape of Spain.
