De-Icing Fluids
De-icing fluids are specially formulated liquids used to remove ice and snow from aircraft surfaces, ensuring safe takeoff and landing. These fluids work by lowering the freezing point of water, preventing ice from forming on the wings and other critical areas. Commonly used during winter months, de-icing fluids help maintain the performance and safety of aircraft, especially in cold weather conditions.
There are two main types of de-icing fluids: Type I and Type IV. Type I fluids are heated and sprayed on to melt existing ice, while Type IV fluids are thicker and provide longer-lasting protection against ice formation. Both types are essential for the safe operation of commercial and private flights during winter.
