Daniel K. Inouye
Daniel K. Inouye was an American politician who served as a U.S. Senator from Hawaii from 1963 until his death in 2012. He was the first Japanese American to serve in the U.S. Senate and played a significant role in various legislative efforts, including civil rights and healthcare reform.
Inouye was also a decorated World War II veteran, having served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a unit composed mainly of Japanese Americans. He received numerous awards for his bravery, including the Medal of Honor, which he was awarded posthumously for his actions during the war.
