Dambusters Raid
The Dambusters Raid was a famous military operation during World War II, conducted by the Royal Air Force on May 16-17, 1943. The mission aimed to destroy key dams in the Ruhr Valley of Germany, which were crucial for the Nazi war effort. Using specially designed bouncing bombs created by engineer Barnes Wallis, the raid targeted the Edersee, Möhne, and Sorpe dams.
Led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, the operation involved 19 Lancaster bombers from the 617 Squadron. Despite facing heavy defenses, the raid successfully breached the Möhne and Eder dams, causing significant flooding and damage to industrial sites. The Dambusters Raid is remembered for its innovative tactics and bravery.
