Dal Riata
Dal Riata was an ancient kingdom that existed from the 5th to the 9th centuries, primarily located in what is now western Scotland and northeastern Ireland. It was established by the Gaels, a Celtic people, and played a significant role in the early history of both regions. The kingdom was known for its strong maritime culture and trade connections.
The rulers of Dal Riata were often referred to as kings, and the kingdom was divided into several territories. Its capital was likely located at Dunadd, a hillfort in Argyll. Over time, Dal Riata faced challenges from neighboring kingdoms and eventually merged with the Kingdom of Scotland in the 9th century.
