Daegeum
The Daegeum is a traditional Korean bamboo flute known for its rich, warm sound. It typically measures about 1.8 meters in length and features a distinctive wide mouthpiece. The instrument is often used in various forms of Korean music, including court music and folk songs, and is recognized for its ability to produce both melodic and harmonic tones.
Crafted from a single piece of bamboo, the Daegeum has six finger holes and a unique membrane that enhances its sound quality. Musicians often play it in ensembles, alongside other traditional instruments like the Gayageum and Janggu, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Korean musical heritage.
