D-Day landing beaches
The D-Day landing beaches refer to the five locations along the coast of Normandy, France, where Allied forces landed on June 6, 1944, during World War II. These beaches were codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. The operation aimed to establish a foothold in Europe and marked a significant turning point in the war against Nazi Germany.
Each beach had specific objectives and faced different challenges. Omaha Beach was known for its fierce resistance and high casualties, while Utah Beach encountered less opposition. The successful landings allowed the Allies to begin their liberation of Western Europe.
