Cycloplegia
Cycloplegia is a medical condition characterized by the paralysis of the ciliary muscle in the eye, which affects the ability to focus on nearby objects. This condition can occur naturally or be induced through the use of certain medications, known as cycloplegics, which are often used during eye examinations to facilitate a clearer view of the retina.
When cycloplegia occurs, the eye's lens becomes unable to change shape, leading to blurred vision for close tasks. It is commonly used in ophthalmology to assess refractive errors and diagnose conditions like myopia or hyperopia. The effects of cycloplegia are usually temporary, lasting a few hours to several days, depending on the agent used.
