Cushing Syndrome
Cushing Syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of the hormone cortisol. This can occur due to various factors, including tumors in the pituitary gland or adrenal glands, or from taking corticosteroid medications for other health conditions. Symptoms often include weight gain, particularly around the abdomen and face, thinning skin, and increased bruising.
Diagnosis typically involves blood tests, urine tests, and imaging studies to identify the source of excess cortisol. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation, or medication to control cortisol production, depending on the underlying cause of the syndrome.
