Curio Bay
Curio Bay is a stunning coastal area located in the Catlins region of New Zealand's South Island. It is known for its unique geological features, including fossilized tree stumps that date back over 180 million years. The bay is part of the larger Curio Bay Marine Reserve, which protects its diverse marine life and offers opportunities for activities like swimming, kayaking, and wildlife watching.
The area is also famous for its resident population of Hector's dolphins, one of the world's smallest dolphin species. Visitors can often spot these playful creatures swimming close to the shore. Additionally, Curio Bay is a great spot for observing yellow-eyed penguins and other seabirds, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.
