Cuban solenodon
The Cuban solenodon is a small, nocturnal mammal native to Cuba and Hispaniola. It has a long, pointed snout and a body covered in coarse fur. This unique creature is one of the few surviving members of an ancient group of mammals called Eulipotyphla, which also includes shrews and moles.
Cuban solenodons are insectivorous, primarily feeding on insects, worms, and small invertebrates. They have a distinctive venomous bite, which they use to subdue their prey. Due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species, the Cuban solenodon is considered endangered, highlighting the need for conservation efforts.
