Cuban manatee
The Cuban manatee is a large marine mammal found primarily in the coastal waters and rivers of Cuba and surrounding areas. It is a subspecies of the West Indian manatee and can grow up to 13 feet long, weighing between 800 to 1,200 pounds. These gentle herbivores primarily feed on seagrasses and aquatic plants.
Cuban manatees are known for their slow-moving nature and social behavior, often seen in small groups. They are classified as vulnerable due to habitat loss, hunting, and boat strikes. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their populations and habitats in the Caribbean region.
