Cuban crocodile
The Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer) is a medium-sized species native to the swamps and mangroves of Cuba. It is known for its distinctive, patterned skin and a more slender body compared to other crocodile species. This crocodile primarily feeds on fish, birds, and small mammals, using its agility to hunt in shallow waters.
Cuban crocodiles are unique for their social behavior, often seen basking together in groups. They are also one of the most endangered crocodile species, facing threats from habitat loss and hybridization with the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus). Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining populations.
