Cryptobranchidae
Cryptobranchidae is a family of large aquatic salamanders commonly known as giant salamanders. They are primarily found in freshwater habitats in North America and Asia. This family includes three extant species: the Eastern Hellbender, the Ozark Hellbender, and the Chinese Giant Salamander. These salamanders are known for their impressive size, with some individuals reaching lengths of over 1.5 meters.
Members of the Cryptobranchidae family are characterized by their flattened bodies, loose skin, and external gills. They are primarily nocturnal and feed on a diet of fish, crustaceans, and other aquatic organisms. Due to habitat loss and pollution, some species within this family are considered endangered.
