Cross-country teams
Cross-country teams are groups of athletes who compete in long-distance running events across varied terrains, such as fields, forests, and hills. These teams typically consist of both male and female runners, often ranging from middle school to college levels. Races usually cover distances of 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) for women and 8 kilometers (5 miles) for men, depending on the age group and competition level.
Team members train together to improve their endurance, speed, and overall performance. Cross-country meets are held throughout the season, culminating in championship events like the NCAA Cross Country Championships or IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Team scoring is based on the finishing positions of the runners, with the lowest total score winning the race.
