Crocodilopolis
Crocodilopolis, also known as Crocodilopolis, was an ancient Egyptian city located in the region of Faiyum. It was named after the sacred crocodile, Sobek, who was worshipped there. The city served as a center for the cult of Sobek and was known for its large population of crocodiles, which were revered and often mummified.
The city flourished during the Ptolemaic period and was an important economic hub due to its agricultural production, particularly in grain. Archaeological findings, including temples and burial sites, provide insight into the religious practices and daily life of its inhabitants.
