Countess Anne of Cleves
Countess Anne of Cleves was a German noblewoman born in 1515. She is best known for her brief marriage to King Henry VIII of England, which took place in 1540. Their union was politically motivated, aimed at strengthening ties between England and the Duchy of Cleves. However, the marriage was annulled just six months later due to Henry's dissatisfaction.
After the annulment, Anne was given a generous settlement and remained in England. She was treated with respect and even referred to as the "King's Beloved Sister." Anne lived a comfortable life until her death in 1557, leaving a legacy as one of Henry VIII's six wives.
