Cossack Rebellion
The Cossack Rebellion refers to a series of uprisings by the Cossacks, a group of predominantly East Slavic-speaking people known for their military prowess and semi-nomadic lifestyle. These rebellions often arose in response to oppressive policies from the Russian Empire or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, particularly regarding land rights and taxation.
One of the most notable Cossack uprisings was the Khmelnytsky Uprising in 1648, led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky. This rebellion aimed to establish greater autonomy for the Cossacks and resulted in significant political changes in the region, including the eventual establishment of the Cossack Hetmanate.
