Cornelius Scipio
Cornelius Scipio, often referred to as Scipio Africanus, was a prominent Roman general and statesman during the Second Punic War (218-201 BC). He is best known for his decisive victory over the Carthaginian general Hannibal at the Battle of Zama in 202 BC, which effectively ended the war and established Rome as a dominant power in the Mediterranean.
Born into a patrician family around 236 BC, Scipio began his military career at a young age. He was instrumental in several campaigns against Carthage, showcasing his strategic brilliance and leadership skills. His achievements earned him the title "Africanus," reflecting his success in Africa and his significant contributions to Roman military history.
