Cordylobia anthropophaga
Cordylobia anthropophaga, commonly known as the tumbu fly, is a species of blow fly found primarily in tropical regions of Africa. The adult flies are known for their distinctive yellowish-brown coloration and can be recognized by their large size, typically measuring about 12-14 mm in length.
The female tumbu fly lays its eggs in soil or on damp clothing, and the larvae can penetrate human skin, causing myiasis, a condition where the larvae develop within the host. This parasitic behavior can lead to painful lesions and requires medical treatment to remove the larvae.
