Botfly
A botfly is a type of parasitic fly belonging to the family Oestridae. The adult botfly lays its eggs on the skin of mammals, including humans, where the larvae then burrow into the host's tissue. This process can cause discomfort and may lead to infections if not treated properly.
Botflies are commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly in Central America and South America. The larvae can grow inside the host for several weeks before emerging as adult flies. While botfly infestations are rare in humans, they can occur, especially in those who have traveled to affected areas.
