Coquille Tribe
The Coquille Tribe is a Native American tribe located in southwestern Oregon, primarily in Coos County. They are part of the larger Coast Salish cultural group and have a rich history that includes fishing, hunting, and gathering in the coastal and riverine environments of the region.
In 1989, the Coquille Tribe regained federal recognition, allowing them to establish a government and manage their own affairs. The tribe operates various enterprises, including a casino and a cultural center, which help support their community and preserve their heritage.
