Coots
Coots are medium-sized water birds belonging to the family Rallidae. They are commonly found in freshwater habitats like lakes, ponds, and marshes. Coots have a distinctive appearance, characterized by their dark plumage, white bill, and lobed toes, which help them swim and dive for food. They primarily feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates.
These birds are known for their unique behavior, often seen swimming in groups or foraging along the water's edge. Coots are also recognized for their loud, clattering calls, especially during the breeding season. They build nests in dense vegetation near water, where they raise their young.
