Contusions
A contusion, commonly known as a bruise, occurs when small blood vessels under the skin break due to an impact or injury. This results in bleeding beneath the skin, causing discoloration, swelling, and tenderness in the affected area. Contusions can happen anywhere on the body and are often the result of falls, sports injuries, or accidents.
Treatment for contusions typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation, often referred to as the RICE method. Most contusions heal on their own within a few days to weeks, but severe cases may require medical attention to rule out more serious injuries, such as fractures.
