Contact Transmission
Contact transmission is a method of spreading infectious diseases through direct or indirect contact. In direct contact transmission, an infected person touches another person, transferring pathogens like bacteria or viruses. This can occur through skin-to-skin contact, kissing, or sexual intercourse.
Indirect contact transmission happens when pathogens are transferred via surfaces or objects, known as fomites. For example, if someone with the flu touches a doorknob, the virus can remain on that surface. When another person touches the doorknob and then their face, they may become infected. Proper hygiene practices, such as handwashing, can help prevent contact transmission.
