Constance, Duchess of Brittany
Constance, Duchess of Brittany (c. 1161–1201) was a significant historical figure in medieval France. She was the daughter of Duke Geoffrey II of Brittany and Béatrice of England. Constance became the Duchess of Brittany in her own right after her father's death, ruling during a time of political turmoil and conflict.
In 1181, Constance married Geoffrey Plantagenet, the son of King Henry II of England, which strengthened ties between Brittany and England. After Geoffrey's death, she faced challenges in maintaining her duchy’s independence, particularly against the ambitions of the French crown. Constance's legacy includes her efforts to secure Brittany's autonomy and her role in the complex feudal politics of the era.
