Congolese National Movement
The Congolese National Movement (Mouvement National Congolais, MNC) was a political party founded in 1958 in the Belgian Congo. It aimed to achieve independence from Belgian colonial rule and promote national unity among the diverse ethnic groups in the region. The MNC was led by Patrice Lumumba, who became a prominent figure in the struggle for Congolese independence.
The MNC played a crucial role in the Congo's path to independence, which was achieved on June 30, 1960. Following independence, the party faced internal divisions and political challenges, leading to Lumumba's eventual assassination in January 1961. The MNC's legacy remains significant in the history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
