Conception is the process by which a sperm cell from a male fertilizes an egg cell from a female, leading to the formation of a zygote. This typically occurs during sexual intercourse when sperm is ejaculated into the female's reproductive tract, allowing it to travel to the egg, usually located in the fallopian tubes.
Once fertilization occurs, the zygote begins to divide and develop as it moves toward the uterus. If successful, it will implant into the uterine lining, where it can grow into an embryo and eventually develop into a fetus over the course of approximately nine months, resulting in pregnancy.
