The fallopian tubes are two thin tubes in a woman's reproductive system that connect the ovaries to the uterus. They play a crucial role in reproduction by allowing the passage of eggs from the ovaries to the uterus. Each month, during ovulation, an egg is released from an ovary and travels through a fallopian tube, where it may meet sperm for fertilization.
If fertilization occurs, the fertilized egg continues its journey down the fallopian tube to implant in the lining of the uterus. If no fertilization happens, the egg will eventually disintegrate, and the body will expel it during menstruation.
