Complex Partial Seizures
Complex partial seizures are a type of seizure that originates in one area of the brain, often affecting consciousness. During these seizures, a person may appear to be awake but is actually in a state of altered awareness. They might perform repetitive movements, such as hand rubbing or lip-smacking, and may not respond to questions or stimuli.
These seizures typically last between 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Afterward, individuals may feel confused or disoriented, a state known as the postictal phase. Complex partial seizures can be caused by various factors, including epilepsy, head injuries, or brain infections.
