Common Burdock
Common Burdock, scientifically known as Arctium minus, is a biennial plant native to Europe and Asia but now found in many parts of the world. It typically grows up to 1.5 meters tall and features large, heart-shaped leaves. The plant produces purple flowers that bloom in late summer and are known for their distinctive burrs, which can cling to clothing and animal fur.
This plant thrives in disturbed areas, such as roadsides and fields, and prefers moist, nutrient-rich soil. Common Burdock has been used in traditional medicine for its potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Its roots are also edible and are sometimes used in cooking.
