Colombian Indigenous Languages
Colombian Indigenous languages are a diverse group of languages spoken by various Indigenous communities across Colombia. There are over 60 distinct Indigenous languages, belonging to several language families, including Chibchan, Arawakan, and Cariban. These languages reflect the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Indigenous peoples in the region.
Many Colombian Indigenous languages are at risk of extinction due to factors like urbanization and the dominance of Spanish. Efforts are being made to preserve these languages through education and cultural initiatives, ensuring that future generations can maintain their linguistic and cultural identities.
