Colombian Independence
Colombian Independence refers to the struggle for freedom from Spanish colonial rule, which began in the early 19th century. The movement gained momentum in 1810, leading to a series of battles and political changes. Key figures in this struggle included Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Miranda, who played significant roles in rallying support for independence.
On July 20, 1810, a notable event known as the Cartagena Manifesto marked the beginning of the independence movement. After years of conflict, Colombia officially declared independence in 1819, culminating in the victory at the Battle of Boyacá. This event is celebrated annually as a national holiday in Colombia.
