Coleford, Monmouth, Usk and Pontypool Railway
The Coleford, Monmouth, Usk and Pontypool Railway was a railway line in Wales that connected the towns of Coleford, Monmouth, Usk, and Pontypool. Opened in the late 19th century, it primarily served to transport coal and other goods from the surrounding areas to markets. The railway played a significant role in the local economy during its operation.
The line was eventually closed in the mid-20th century due to declining usage and competition from road transport. Today, remnants of the railway can still be seen, and parts of the route have been repurposed for walking and cycling paths, preserving its historical significance.
