Coconut Crab
The Coconut Crab is the largest terrestrial arthropod, known for its impressive size, reaching up to 3 feet in length and weighing up to 9 pounds. Found primarily on islands in the Indo-Pacific region, these crabs are adept climbers and can often be seen scaling trees in search of coconuts, which are a primary food source.
Coconut crabs have a distinctive appearance, with a hard shell that ranges in color from brown to blue. They are nocturnal scavengers, feeding on fruits, nuts, and carrion. Despite their size, they are not considered dangerous to humans, although they can deliver a painful pinch with their strong claws.
