Coccygeal Spinal Cord
The coccygeal spinal cord is the terminal segment of the spinal cord, located at the base of the vertebral column. It consists of a small number of nerve roots that emerge from the coccyx, the tailbone. This region is responsible for transmitting signals between the brain and the lower parts of the body.
In humans, the coccygeal spinal cord typically has one pair of coccygeal nerves, which contribute to the sacral plexus. These nerves play a role in sensory and motor functions, particularly in the pelvic area. Although small, the coccygeal spinal cord is essential for certain reflexes and functions related to the lower body.
